DS takes a slow release med, which lasts until afternoon. His yeshiva says it isn't long enough and they want him to take a second pill. Does anyone give their kids two pills to last a long Yeshiva day?

You can get a lot of stimulants now in a capsule that lasts extra long. Talk to your doctor.

Ds is supposed to take long acting ritalin before school and another 5 mg of regular ritalin at 2 pm. Since he usually forgets the afternoon dose, his doctor thinks we should switch to concerta which should last 12 hours.

Look into Adhansia XR. It lasts very long. 2 of my kids were on Concerta which was wearing off toward the end of the school day. They are both doing very well on Adhansia XR.

Yes my DS took a second dose of regular non XR foculin in the afternoon. He hated it and wasn’t eating. We eventually moved him to a more modern, shorter day Yeshiva where he only needs the one pill. It is a hard balancing act for sure. About to deal with same issue with a younger son.

Don’t give him an extra pill, talk with a psychiatrist first an extra pill later at the day can affect his sleep as in not sleeping at all and having not much hunger. It’s nice to have a med kid in class but the solution is not to drug a kid.

Yes, my DS extended release only lasted from 6 am to 2 pm so he had to take another one at school. Now he is on Concerta which lasts until around 6 pm and he takes a low dose Ritalin the evenings.
