A few of my kids are working on learning to play The Place Where I Belong, so so beautiful.
My husband walked down to Ilu Finu... Also very pretty. |
😆 I also walked down to ilu finu! I loved it because it was like an expression of how thankful I was at that moment! Plus I loved the tune- I wanted something slow but not too "kvetchy". It was perfect!
I also grew up with journeys. Love all the songs.
My mother never liked the chasunah song, she thought it was insulting.😆 I love it though!

Yes. Amazing story. The Man from Vilna is one of my favorite songs too.

Mama Rachel, Jo DiMaggio's card, neshamala, lulei sorascha are some of my absolute favorites. My (relatively young) kids know many of the songs too!

Luley Sorascha (although I didn’t appreciate it as a kid)
And, how could I have forgotten-
Of course,
Yerushalayim!!!!!

Yerushalayim the place to live
Yerushalayim Harim Saviv
Yerushalayim Ir shel shalom
Yerushalayim we're going home
Yerushalayim the sky's so blue
Yerushalayim we turn to you
Yerushalayim Ir shel Shalom
Yerushalayim we're going home...
I rememebr as a kid, we once put on a show for our mothers and we sang this song. This was my solo:
Where else in this world can you find a wall,
Whenever you touch it- it ouches you
Reach for the stones, they're moist with the tears
Of our hopes and our dreams that we know will soon come true

Really! I didnt know that.
I heard that Abie did not compose the tune to the Torah song (I was made way back in 1842), and Dreams come true. Anyone know if its true?
ETA;
Found this: THE PLACE WHERE I BELONG- Journeys- Attributed to R’ Hershel Goldstein,
Popularized By R’ Shalom Schwadron, English Lyrics By Abie Rotenberg- Journeys 1 (Same tune as Chasal- Lev V’nefesh 1)

I remember hearing it at a woman's concert (possibly a taste of music?) to a different tune (slightly different start of the lyrics to the song as well) well before it made it to Journeys.
Definitely a favorite song of mine, but for that reason I have a hard time classifying it as a Journeys song
ETA was the author Dinah Storch?

For all Abie Rottenberg fans, (and which one of us isn't??) here is a little known song that I discovered a few months ago. https://youtu.be/ebB0VIGs2UU
Soul-stirring. Warning, once you listen to it, you may find yourself playing it all day.
It is a tribute to R Eli Teitelbaum.

Teardrop (probably my favorite. I can't listen without crying)
Memories
Ride the Train
Neshamala (I love playing on the piano)
Sfashfenaz
Does anyone have a copy of the play Journeys that RCCS put out around 10 years ago? Chayayitty Pollack and 3 other ladies were high school classmates who had a reunion many years after they graduated. All the songs were from Journeys. If you can get your hands on it, it's worthwhile. We LOVE it.

I watched it. It was a great trip down memory lane.
They also did a play with MBD songs.

You know, I thought I saw recently that he wrote a book on Tehillim or something similar. But I googled it now and apparently I mixed it up with someone else. Sorry.
