And I make it and it comes out great. though I cut out lots of the sugar, and add some ground nuts to the topping. I also put it all on top - not under the apples. |
Anything that has been processed through production of the raw product is a no-no on Pesach (for us). You will ask about sugar and salt? I can't answer, but we do use sugar and salt and do NOT use cinnamon. The apple mixture tasted just fine without the cinnamon.

I buy the ginger root but find it hard to work with. if I could figure out what to do with it, it'd prob enhance the pie/crumble.

actually, then, that's a Betty - not a pie, and not a crumble.

I think I will make it again for second days and substitute some of that starch for ground and chopped walnuts in the crust. Otherwise, the apple mixture was yum, even though I skipped the cinnamon and vanilla sugar. |
can you post the amounts? thanks

With one cup of oil as was specified in the recipe, I did NOT get crumbs, I got a liquidy batter that hardened when baked. I loved it anyhow, but I'm wondering how anybody gets crumbs.
I made this recipe a few times and NEVER got crumbs!

I used oil and got crumbs. It was not liquidy at all. I did make it in the food processor though.

Just until it looked combined. Dumped it out into a bowl and broke up some of the big pieces in the bottom where it was a big "glump" instead of crumbs.

I made it with oil, got crumbs and did it by hand. It came out good. It sounds like I got lucky - even my son ate it who never eats anything like it.
