I would like to scrape and stain my wood floors. Im getting conflicting advice if I have to move out of my house or not. One company said its not dangerous but smells strongly, the other said gotta move out about 4 days...

There are two kinds of stains, oil-based and water-based. Oil-based will smell really bad and take a few days to dry, water-based will dry quickly and not smell it much

According to the flooring place I spoke to recently - oil based is cheaper and lasts a bit better but water based has less of a yellow tinge in the color.
