We need to upgrade our current hot water tank... Does anyone here recommend or specifically not recommend and tankless hot water system? I wouldn't mind saving the space from a 50 or 70 gallon hot water tank but I've heard that tankless systems can give you issues. Anyone with good/bad experience?

Afaik, the big disadvantage is that you can’t use hot water on yom tov because it turns on the heat each time.

Tankless will take longer to heat the water as it needs to heat the water at the time, while the tank will keep water hot. Also most tankless systems will struggle to have multiple users. Like if someone wants to take a shower while you're washing the dishes, or 2 people want to take a shower, you may find that you don't both get hot water.
For me that was important. I wanted not to worry that we couldn't use the hot water at the same time.

"Also most tankless systems will struggle to have multiple users."
That's not the case, there are larger tanks meant to supply larger homes. You just need to get the right size tank.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant that a tank is better as you can have multiple people using the water at the same time. We have a large tank and we can get 3 or 4 baths/showers before it needs to start refilling. A system without a tank will struggle to do this.

I was told tankless systems have shorter lifespans than water tanks.
