I'm JPF, not Chabad, and live in an OOT community. Would it be weird to put my kid in a pig costume for a theme?

I think it's inappropriate.

I wouldnβt do that. Without a doubt.
Curious how a pig matches your theme!

There's a book they like a lot that features a pig family.

Oh. You can get them pig costumes to dress up for fun throughout the year.
But itβs certainly not for a Jewish holiday.

I guess Iβd feel better with peppa pig characters than just plain pig, but probably not.

Curious if people think a monkey or dog would be the same vibe?

Not the same vibe at all.
Dogs aren't seen as bad in Western society.
Monkeys: All I can think of is 'monkey business'

I wouldn't have a problem with it, esp if it were part of a group theme ( Three Little Pigs, Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig, Animal Farm, etc.).

I would personally think it was cute. I am JPF too. IMHO, your kids being happy is more important than what women on this site think. π€·π»ββοΈπ

It's not really what the women on this site think, although I respect the Imamothers' opinions, it's more the fact of dressing up your Jewish child with a Jewish pure neshama on a Jewish holiday, as an animal that is considered the most non-kosher in the Torah.
What is JPF?

Indeed. And I am also a woman on this site and told her what *I* think. π π

JPF=Just Plain Frum. OP said she was JPF. It is a costume, not a real pig so I personally donβt see an issue with it in those circles. I would obviously give a different response if she had eg said βI am JPF but daven at Chabad.β

First, Pig is the symbol of treif.
Second, the mother wants to do a theme not the child.
