Do you still daven for their health using their mother's name or their father's name? I have heard two different opinions just wondering what most people do

I have only heard about using the mother when davening for somebody alive (even if mother passed).

After somebody passes away (like yizkor, cemetary, tzedakah,) and for legal things, and aliyos are the times I was taught to use fathers.
