I’m in desperate need of one asap! Problem is, I have no wall by my stairs to attach it to. And my banister is weird that the bottom wooden thing id attach any gate to, has a wooden spindle blocking it. Am I being clear? Otherwise I’ll try to post a pic. Anyone know what I can do? Tia

Thanks for the link. I don’t think it will help. I’ll post a pic soon. It’s such a hard banister to put a gate onto!

what about attaching with tie wraps? I've done that in some locations where it couldn't get attached any other way

Some baby gates sellers have an add on set available for banisters.

I don't have stairs but my mothers house does, and nobody ever keeps the gate closed, so I teach my babies to climb up and down. I think the youngest video I have of that is from 9 months old. There's a short period of vigilant watching needed and then they're pro climbers and I can sit on the couch in peace.

I have this. I think my banister is like yours. between the thick post and the stairs I have a thin spindle. I connected this to the front of the thick post, instead of the side over the stairs. Attached to the side of the thick post I face when standing facing the stairs. That makes the gate come like 2-3 inches away from the top of the stairs, if you get what I mean.
I'm not sure how to post a picture, but in the amazon reviews there's a review with a picture posted by someone Spencer on November 3 2015 that shows exactly the way mine is positioned.
I have it on for a few years now and it works perfectly. I removed the gate when I didn't need it anymore, but left this post on so I can just slip the gate back on as needed. (if you have an easily removeable gate.)

My baby is amazing at climbing up, but I tried to teach her to climb down and she did one step. After that, each time either she got scared and started crying, or if I wasn’t right behind her, she would’ve fallen. She’s only 10 months old. Not sure if she’s old enough to really learn

This is what I’m talking about. The white spindle is blocking the brown banister from my putting a gate on it

the link I posted should work for you. I can put the wooden piece on the part of your brown banister facing the camera. then attach the gate to that. many gates don't have to be attached perpendicular, and it should work.
I have the summer infant gate, linked below. I attach the gate itself to the bar on banister, and the locking part gets screwed into the wall. do you have a wall on other side of the stairs?
