I'm looking for a good stair gate if anyone can recommend one please?
In my last house I didn't have a good one, it was too hard to open and close, especially for my older kids. So looking for one that's strong enough not to let my 1.5 year old upstairs, but easy enough for everyone else to open and close.

We had a retractable gate. It was fabric and the dc got the scissors and then it wasn't a gate anymore. It was also more difficult to close each time.
For the stairs we had a wooden adjustable stair gate. We needed the adjustable as it was a slightly different size to the standard width gates. It was a screw fix so it didn't have the bar to trip over when it was open. And I thought wooden looked cosmetically nicer than the metal. I don't remember the brand but it was a while ago and my baby is long past that stage now.
It had a press in on the side of the fitting and pull up the gate out the lock. It was easy enough for the older kids, but the younger ones couldn't operate it. Something similar to this.

Also I think it locked automatically as you swung the gate closed.

I think it’s important to measure space and order accordingly. I ordered 3 other gates that didn’t work so I’m not sure responses on here will be very helpful. Good luck!
