Hi,
I recently became intrigued with psychology and how complexed yet patterned we humans are. I’m a complete novice to psychology and would love to read some interesting, not too intense or high level books for a beginner. I’m specifically interested in topics like childhood trauma, self esteem, attachment etc.
My own life experiences, or rather a newfound awareness to how it had impacted me in adulthood, have piqued my thirst to understand more.
If you have any good book suggestions, please post. Thank you!

Some books I have enjoyed so far:
Maybe you should talk to someone by Lorrie gottlieb (reads more like a novel)
The body keeps the score by Bessel van der kolk
I’m in middle of another book on trauma I can share when I’m finished

Another vote for Maybe You Should Talk To Someone! It was very entertaining, but I also really learned a lot about myself and others.

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone and Good Morning Monster are great books about the therapeutic experience.
There are some great books about the brain and new discoveries of what it is capable of. Anything about neuro plasticity is interesting as well.
If You Meet the Buddah on the Road Kill Him, is a very interesting look at the role of the therapist and therapy.

It seems to be out of print but I liked Real Power by David Lieberman. It may have been redone as If G-d Were Your Therapist because that's what Google is giving me but I'm not sure.
Grab the Reins by Shoshana Schwartz was beautifully done.
Trying to remember what else because I do like this topic but it's been a while.
You mention self esteem, Rabbi Dr. Twerski was the top author on that, look up his titles.

Two books about attachment theory:
I loved Attached (https://www.amazon.com/Attached-Attachment-Find-Keep-Love-Find-ebook/dp/B0049H9AVU/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3EAWT0GAU0D37&keywords=attached&qid=1683029361&sprefix=attached%2Caps%2C235&sr=8-1). Easy read, clear to understand.
I also liked A Secure Base (https://www.amazon.com/Secure-Base-Parent-Child-Attachment-Development/dp/0465075975/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2FQ2ELJ0W0Z91&keywords=a+secure+base&qid=1683029537&sprefix=a+secure+ba%2Caps%2C503&sr=8-1), but it was a heavier read.
