How much did they charge?
That's interesting bc it's one move
From house to house
Not house to truck to house

I would hire some responsible youths for a few hours to move the boxes for you

I did it. The easiest is to move things straight from closet to closet and not pack. I didn’t pack my kitchen at all. You just need movers for the heavy shlepping/furniture. You should pay less because you don’t need a truck. Ask around.

usually you pay per hour so it will be the same rate but should take less time. no one can give you a quote without knowing how much stuff you have

If you hire a moving company, they charge by the hour. Even if you pay for three men more per hour, it generally goes faster and is easier so it is worth it.

You save because you need few hours since they won’t charge for driving nor will they need to load or unload the truck.

You can save a bit if you move stuff yourself gradually especially fragile items. However, professional movers generally are very efficient and so if you have boxed stuff, they load it on their dollies. Also good movers wrap furniture to protect it.

You can hire a mover by the hour to do just the heavy furniture.
