My 5 year old son wakes up early with the sun, and every morning while we’re all still sleeping he lies on his stomach awake and rubs his body on his mattress.
He can do this for a while until we wake up.
I’ve spoken to him many times telling him it isn’t ok, but he still does it when he thinks I’m not looking.
Is this something you’d let go or make stop?

Let it go. It’s normal to do in private.

This makes me feel better, but even though it’s (almost) every morning and can go on for an hour or so?

Why are you telling him this isn’t this ok?
It’s his body and his way of relaxing probably.
I remind my 5 year old that he cannot touch his privates around people because that’s inappropriate but it’s completely normal and ok for them to explore their own bodies. It’s not s3xual at that age. It just feels good.

Agree to posters above. Ill never forget my mother never once shamed me for doing it as a kid. She just told me its normal and healthy and only in private and no one else can be touching me down there. I have such a healthy sense of s-xuality and body and no shame BH as a (yeshivish) kallah even on my wedding night I felt comfortable being with my husband and I was able to tel him what felt good and could successfully org*sm and never felt shame surrounding intimacy.
I think how you address it now does impact a child's sense of self for the future
