What do you do when a bank won't shut down your line of credit / credit card that they issued on your checking account? The checking account has been closed for years. They won't shut the credit card. I keep getting 0 statements and want it shut. Closed tight. Open accounts for no reason is no good.

The bank says I have to call the credit card line the credit card line says I have to call the bank. The bank moved far away and I don't have access to keep going down over and over to get it resolved. I want to know which bureau can force them to shut the account via phone.

I'm not sure why you say it's no good to have open lines of credit. I believe it helps your credit score.

I don't know if going down in person will make a difference. Why dont' you call back and ask to speak with a manager? or call both and conference them?

Why not keep it open? It’s better for your credit score. Are there annual fees?

The CFPB is the authority over banks. You can file a complaint here - https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

I’ve gotten very quick results after filing a report with them. Banks are terrified of them.

This poster knows what they're talking about. I assume the hug is because someone loves their answer and not because of any other reason.

But I understand you, OP. I'm a little OCD-ish and don't like unnecessary credit lines either.

Switch to paperless statements and then they’ll never have to bother you again.

I’m serious.

I don't like knowing there's an open account that I'm not monitoring. If it's not being used, my energy belongs on the accounts that are being utilized.
