My sister lived in Borehamwood when they first got married, because they couldn't afford Hendon. That was about twenty years ago, so I don't know how prices have changed.
Is there still a community in Temple Fortune? Bushey? Pinner? Kenton? Any of them could be worth investigating.

I'm looking for any kind of information but especially what the area is like to live in and the availability of affordable housing.
Oxford is the only place I have previously visited and I know the area where the shul is located is extremely expensive but I don't know if there is any more affordable housing within a reasonable distance. |
Just been in St Albans today- the part I was in was really lovely- lots of greenery and very spacious. A place I would love to live in if I could!

Wow, I didn't realize these places had kehillos. Is there a reason OP you're looking at specifically those places? Do you have to be near London? South Manchester, Whitefield in Manchester or Leeds are nice communities that have a diverse mix of people and are reasonable places to buy houses (or at least compared to London).

Is there still a Jewish community in Reading, Berkshire? My friend grew up there and I know there was definitely an orthodox shul there (but small community) still when she went back to visit about 20/25 years ago.

Yes, further to my previous post, I see there still is an orthodox community in Reading.
Nice area of the UK to live, not too far from the amenities of London.
Take a look.
