Our district has gifted pullout starting in 3rd grade and self contained gifted starting in 4th. But my kid needed a challenge before that so they subject accelerated here and there. He was in first grade but taking 4th grade math and 5th grade science. He was responsible for grade level testing but was allowed to sit in on the higher level classes unofficially. That was awesome until he got expelled for behavior. 😆 a good school can bring on level instruction to the kid without forcing grade acceleration.
