I’m from Lakewood NJ. In the summer all the Bais Yaakov type girls wear denim. Is this the same in Israel or is denim not really approved?

It was banned for many years. It's starting to creep in again, subtly, like on a pocket. Soft flowy light colored denim was in style for the preteens last year. Not sure it's allowed for actual teens.

Really? Denim is allowed in Lakewood BY schools?

Not IN school because you have to wear the school uniform, but out of school, on Sunday, summer, etc...sure.

More like denim color. And more refined styles.
Not a real jeans or a rugged look
A few years ago it would have been super otd look but now somehow its accepted.

I remember being in EY 3 years ago, and my American-yeshivish niece (BY Yashan, IIRC she was in Heh) was wearing a light blue denim shirt under a sweater, so you only saw the collar sticking out. She said you could get away with it that way but she wouldn't wear it without a sweater on top.
The Lakewood schools don't really have rules about denim specifically. As with all clothing, refined styles are encouraged.

Got it, thanks.
Chayalle, I meant if schools allowed it outside school hours.

Denim is strongly discouraged. What's called demui jeans - ie denim lookalike is accepted but frowned upon.

Lakewood teens definitely wear real denim fabric. Like biz or A-line denim skirts.... The style reflects the teen, I guess. A real jeans/rugged look would not be on a really BY-type girl, but a biz or other simple style definitely would.
I don't know in which part of Lakewood it was OTD a few years ago....my teens were wearing denim 10 years ago and Chasdei Hashem were never OTD.

Same. When I was in seminary in EY we were asked to wear denim only on tiyulim, to respect the sensitivities of the Israeli BY system.
