Would such a coat be safe for use in a car seat? |
This looks like an outfit, definitely fine for a car seat.

OP, my babies wear a warm fleece jacket that's safe for the car seat. I just run with them from house to car or wrap them in a blanket.

How is the road coat different than other coats?

A little hard to explain, but clear when you see it. It has kind of a double layer, you buckle over the thin layer but there's a thicker layer on top. Also, like by the shoulders it's thin.

We have a second coat to leave at daycare (I buy used at once upon a child or children's place cheap coats). They wear fleece jackets/ sweatshirts in the car plus each have a blanket we leave in the car if they want more. I preheat the car in the morning and we move fast.

You can get a travel sleep sack which can be worn in the car. They are thin and have a slot for the crotch buckle. They have ratings which tell you what temperature they are good for. But keep in mind your kid could easily overheat in the sack and car seat (or any coat and car seat) if you aren't careful about the heater in the car.

It has a path for the straps to travel under the bulky part of the coat. You zip the zipper, buckle the kid, and then close (or not) the outer velcro
Check out their website it gives a clear demo of how it works
