What are the pros and cons of having a long staircase vs broken up? (referring to indoor stairs leading up to upper floor)
I'm building and I know a long staircase is prettier, but I'm concerned about the safety part of it. If a child falls I want something to break the fall.
Thoughts?

One long stair case give a less homey vibe, way more cold but fancy.

Straight run is not prettier, it’s cheaper and it takes up less space so you actually see them more commonly in smaller homes.

How about a curved staircase?

Have a good railing, or even two.
Have rubber strips or treads, not smooth carpet.
Have little lights all along it. Good lighting above it. But on the walls not the ceiling. It can be hard to change the bulb in lights that are on the ceiling over stairs.
If you have room for two shorter ones, your idea is right.

What makes you think that one continuous staircase is prettier?
Curious what vision you have in mind. We’re also doing construction now and I think a divided staircase is prettier and safer.

A stair with a landing is generally found in more upscale homes - or a curved stairway.
It also generally takes up more square footage.
I don't know how one can generalize in terms of which one looks better because there are some gorgeous straight staircases - but often that is because the railings are very special and part of the decor or the treads are done in a very sculptural manner so that the whole staircase is a gorgeous design element.

We have 2 steps a landing at the top then the rest just keep in mind a bottom landing can up up a Clutter spot. I like the Curvy look if you can do that.

A landing gives you a place to rest in the middle of the climb. That's probably why it's called a landing.

Hatzolah told us to carpet our stairs when we called them since our baby fell down them (bh was ok!). They r one long stair case. we did carpet them and when the guy did it I saw he put a layer of padding/foam, then the carpet. Years later I took a different kid 3 year old to the dr after she fell down the flight, and bh she’s fine and he said it’s probably a big part that the stairs were carpeted that she didn’t get hurt Chas vshalom.
Please carpet ur stairs whichever way u do them! Hatzlacha
