can some explain to me why ppl wear acrylic nails?

I am a sensory person to begin with and even regular nail polish is uncomfortable for me but I can understand how it looks nice and will have mine done for special occasions.. that being said I cannot for the life of me understand why people now have long nails, either their own or acrylics added.

it is the most trashy low class style and beside for that, the biggest pain, I would imagine!!! how in the world do you use your fingers with a clumsy thick extention? ive started noticing this on frum women (aka not only walmart cashiers lol) and im confused.

if you wear your nails like this how do you manage day to day tasks?? especially as a mother?
