I bought a house that needs to be gutted. I’m naturally indecisive with these things and I don’t know what goes together or is in. What would you recommend to have a house that looks modern, but timeless? White kitchen? Grey kitchen? Bathrooms? Living room paint color?

I’m not sure where you live, but hiring a economical designer was the best thing I did.

Definitely not a gray kitchen.

White or wood/brown would likely be nice for many years

Would you do gold knobs, black, silver?

If you're gutting a house these questions don't even scratch the surface of the decisions you will need to make. I suggest hiring a designer.

The color isnt really the difference, but rather the cabinets. Brown wood can be modern depending on the cabinet style and kitchen layout, otherwise it will have a very traditional feel

Stick to white neutral shades for paint color.

Kitchen will be your space so unless you want to sell I would go with whatever you love. Styles change quickly.

Bathrooms I also suggest stick to borring light neutrals. Don't go with the latest fads or busy patterns.

Lighting- lots of recessed lights & divide switches so you don't need to turn on all at once. I also got some sconces. Lights in every closet- also serves as night lights.

Definitely a designer. If you’re naturally indecisive you’ll be 120 before you can move in. Did you know you need to choose sinks?! Sinks.
It will cost you an arm and a leg anyway so a designer will ensure that the money is well spent. Congratulations and hatzlacha.

Black

Silver is good also but kind of boring.

Gold must be very expensive high quality to not start chipping after a couple years.

Shouldn’t be too expensive to replace knobs

I have white kitchen cabinets and a grey island. I have silver cabinet pulls. Sounds like you need a designer or someone who can help you make decisions and put things together. I built a house and its lots of decisions. Good luck!

Gutting a house is a huge job!
You have to choose what style home you like. I personally like not too modern and practical. You can do any color knobs but you need to have the other items coordinate. For example if you want black then get a black hardware for the sink to match. Doesn't need to be a must but will look nicer that way. Not just random things. Do you want to be involved in every decision or do you want someone making those decisions for you? Do you have time to choose out all the things or want someone to choose everything and just get it approved by you? Are you on a tight budget? I live in the area you posted and built a home. It's lots of work. Some places for example the kitchen store usually have people there that can help you put things together but you may need extra help because it does get overwhelming.

I was thinking of doorknobs not kitchen cabinets.
