In baskets specifically designed for them. I store it in my pantry closet.

I have them in a set of plastic drawers in my pantry. The onions are on top, sweet potatoes in the middle drawer, and potatoes on the bottom. Someone (I don’t remember who) told me not to keep onions and potatoes next to each other because then they go bad more quickly.

I keep them under my sink in stackable wire bins. I specifically would do something with holes so as not to have such a strong smell trapped in there.

However you store them, do it seperately
Potatoes have a lot of moisture and will make onions go bad really quick. Alternatively- onions release a gas that's toxic to potatoes and causes them to go bad as well
I would recommend keeping them in totally seperate areas, not just different baskets stacked next to each other
