I just went through shoes that have been sitting in storage that I haven't worn in years and threw out seven pairs (!) I'm a bit of a hoarder and it's so hard to let go of things. It feels so good now that they're in the garbage. I have so many other things I should probably do the same with, hoping that if I can share here that it will help me keep the momentum going.

I also have such a hard time purging but it feels so good when I do. I don’t think I’ve ever tossed something and regretted it.

Of course - why trash if someone else could use?! If it’s in good condition it would be bal tashchis…

As an organizing/decluttering coach, I came here to give you all some great tips. Ive got a stock full of suggestions but ill share a drop from my bucket.

Space in the house makes space in the mind!
*Baal Tashchis is keeping an item that is not needed and uses space in your house.
*its not Baal Tachchis to let go of stuff you dont use/need currently.

*Choose a small area that you want to declutter, a drawer, one cabinet at a time, so you dont get overwhelmed.
*Do it in small increments so you feel accomplished. Start with 10/15 minutes a day and pack away everything when done.
*take a garbage bag, a maybe bag/container (decide later what to do with those, that you might still want to keep or give away) and a bag for putting things away in other rooms.

*Take each item, and make a 30 second decision of what to keep or let go.
*How to judge:
Did I use this in the last 1/2 year, do I see myself using it in the next 1/2 year. (If yes, keep it)
(Unless its a seasonal item or like maternity that I hope to wear soon)
Do I have the space for it and is it worth the space its using.
Do I have it just because I own it? (Let it go)
Does it bring me pleasure/joy (keep it)
Has it seen better days? (Let it go)
Can someone else benefit from it now (let them enjoy it)
Is it sentimental? (Either you find the space for it or take a picture of it for memories and let it go)

Good for you! I am telling you , you won't miss it!

I have the opposite problem. I hate owning stuff. I am always binning things... Hubby is always finding things poking out of the bin and questioning me about them but he says he trusts me...
