My daughter is an older single and birthdays have become a mixed bag.. I would like to get her something special this year. I want to spend about $250. She has tons of jewelry so would only get her that if it's something very unusual. She is a big reader and especially interested in history. Other ideas welcome.

A bound book of the newspaper from the day she was born (runs about $85)

Or for a creative idea, a small bookcase, with or without a gift certificate for books. In my experience, older singles often deny themselves permission to buy furniture. And they deserve it just as much as anyone else.

Very original! Especially for a history buff.
Where can you purchase this?

And I agree about the furniture.

I like it too. Apparently the NYT sells it. I am seriously considering it.

I did the NYT book for my grandmother’s birthday, it’s really great. It’s beautiful and came with a magnifying glass as well.

My grandmother was 80, which made the book really special. I think under a certain age they use filler pages of random popular front pages, so the book will be a certain size.

Also tip: order the book after her birthday, if you’d like this years front page to be included in the book.

Does it have to be a physical item? What about tickets to a show or concert that she would enjoy, either with you or a friend? Or what about buying a membership to a museum that she loves or paying for a course that she's interested in?
