I want to try making quinoa in the oven (seems like it's similar to rice just with less cooking time.) I usually sautee an onion and add it to quinoa, but I'm trying this for convenience, so I don't really want to get a pan dirty. Do you think it'll come out good if I dice up an onion raw and put it in the pan before baking? It doesn't have to be exactly the same as if it were sauteed on the stove, just soft and cooked thru

I don't think it will taste so good.

You can sautee onions separately in the oven.

Yes I do that frequently. It's definitely not like sauteed but my family likes it! Add some oil to the pan.

I've done this with rice and it comes out really tasty. Put chopped onion (and garlic) in oil in a pan in the oven and once it's browned, then add the rice to the pan and back in the oven.

Use dried minced onion from the spice jar instead of raw.

Will it get soft? I don't want crunchy pieces

Thanks! How long does that usually take? The recipe says to bake it at 375

You can add oil to the pan with onion and put it on the flame. Just remember it’s super thin so keep the flame really low or use a Blech in between. You can also double the pans for more protection. Then once the onions are soft add the quinoa and can either continue cooking on the stove or put it in the oven at that point.

The dried minced onion will get soft. The raw onion won't get soft when baking quinoa (rice takes longer to bake, and even then I still don't like raw onion in baked rice- I prefer dried minced, or maybe grated raw).
