I want to dress up my 2 year old son as a pirate for Purim and would love some help with ideas on how to do it.
He has black velvet short overalls as a Shabbos outfit for this winter and I was thinking I could use those as a jumping off point. Do you think those could work for this costume?
What else would I need?

Bumping.
Ideally I'd like to purchase as few items as possible (I can buy an accessory or two to finish it off)
Or if I will purchase it should be something that we can use after Purim as well for regular clothing

Tao gave you perfect ideas. The pirate hat is a must so maybe splurge on that. The red and white striped shirt would be my second choice. I love the idea of the matching socks but you can skip those if you have to. I’d skip the eye patch for a toddler or anyone under ten because they might trip and fall. Make a cummerbund out of a long piece of red or black satin. Buy a cheap piece of lining if you have a fabric store near you. Tie it around his waist and stick a big plastic sword into it. You can attach a rubber band to the cummerbund to hold the sword so it doesn’t keep falling out. Buy a colorful toy parrot and use a hot glue gun to attach it to the shoulder of his pirate vest.

Here is a pirate hat for 3$ - if you have a red bandana you can stick one on his head under the hat for when it falls off, if not skip.
https://www.amazon.com/Freebil.....;th=1
At that age, I use would use black eye pencil to draw a eyepatch + stubble (color a scratch sponge with black eye pencil and dab on cheeks)
If you have a white shirt ( preferably button down but can even be an undershirt) that is worn thru or stained, cut the edges and give him the ragged look.
If you already own white tight, buy some red electrical tape and make the stripes yourself. If you don't just buy these for 7$
https://www.amazon.com/Jefferi.....r=8-2
If your two year has hair long enough braid it with beads

wanted to add that when you cut the shirt, cut the neckline so it looks ragged as well
