I'm feeling like a horrible mother. One of my kids seems to need a therapist for some self esteem issues. This is not the first one of our children who is need of some outside help. Am I the only mother whose kids need help?? I feel like I am doing it all wrong:(

I teach middle school. In a class of 20, approx. 8 have a therapist and there's another 3-4 who we've recommended/want to reccomend/ see someone in school. (Gonna add- I know the numbers of who has because the kids talk about it openly, not because the school told me)

You're seeing it backwards. A good mother is willing to seek outside help when needed.

You're most likely not doing anything wrong. At the same time, it might be efficient for you to learn some things you can do to help your kids at home.

Some of my kids have needed OT. At a certain point. At a certain point to pay for me to get coaching to learn the exercises so I could do them at home. It didn't eliminate the deeper therapy but definitely helped. Mental health is the same way.

If you make sure to be involved in your child's therapy, you might pick up ideas to help your other kids too.

Judging by the waiting lists at pretty much every therapist I've ever asked for an appointment, you are by far not the only one whose kids need help.

But I'm sorry for what you're going through. It's so hard.

Yup. Middle school hormones and self esteem universally suck and bH there's no stigma in seeing a therapist in my community
