My friend and I were just talking about laundry. We were just shmoozing about it until she asked me how I do it. I told her I put the detergent first 2-3 tbsp on the bottom of the drum- it’s a top loader then I put 1/2 cup of unstoppables then I put the water on. While the washing machine is filling up I put the clothes. Then the clothes get clean.
She told me she puts the water on the right setting and then puts the desired clothes in. Thorn she add 1/2 cup of detergent on the top the clothes
So my question is whose right?

Every machine is different. In my machine I'm supposed to add the detergent to the bottom and then put in the clothing.

When I had a top loader I did similar. Run the water, add detergent. Let it swish for a half a minute. Add clothes.

I always put detergent in first. That's how I learned.

When I had a top loader, I also used to put in detergent first and as the water was filling I would sort the clothes and then throw it in. But really you could do it either way.

If the laundry comes out clean, what's the difference?

2-3 tablespoons sounds like very little detergent, unless your machine is very tiny.

People put detergent first so the clothes doesn't get ruined from it.

Also, if you look at how much detergent you really need, it's a VERY minimal amount, as shown on each detergent bottle. 2-3 tbls is perfectly fine!!

I have a top loader and I put in detergent first and run the water for a little before adding clothes. Otherwise only the clothes on the bottom of the load will get the detergent instead of it being distributed throughout the load (there's a word I can't think of right now- disintegrated? melted? whatever, you know what I mean)
