For a sleep coach for 17 yo DS.
He is sleep deprived. Most nights he cannot sleep. To his credit he mostly gets up for yeshiva very early 6 days a week. He is irritable and so tired. It is affecting his life so much , and our whole family.
He has tried all the well known tips and recommendations for day and night behaviors and taken supplements . We have spoken to his pediatrician and have followed all his recommendations for well over a year. I do not want DS to start prescriptions sleeping pills . DS is crying to me asking for a sleep specialist. Any recommendations please ? Northern NJ/ Monsey area.

Disclaimer: I'm not in the USA so it may be different.
There is a sub-specialty of pulmonologists which covers sleep. In most hospitals there will be one doctor who is a sleep specialist - call a medical referrals place and ask for a referral. It's not all about pills - he should be doing a sleep lab to see if there is a medical reason why he can't sleep, he should be doing blood work for high adrenalin, checking his hormone markers, working on sleep hygiene and light exposure.

Also have an MRI. A relative had a small, benign cyst on the area of the brain which controlled sleep.
Wasn’t a big deal, but this knowledge can be helpful in treatment.

Ramaelton is 8 mg of melatonin, a natural way to get adults that suffer from insomnia to sleep. Your pediatrician can prescribe it so your insurance covers it. Otherwise just buy it over the counter and adjust the melatonin until however high he needs.
