We have this CLS that works with my child in the infusion center. She is due in a month or so. She is not Jewish (afaik) so probably doesn’t have the minhag not to buy before birth and for all I know it, she may have had a huge baby shower.
So here’s my question, I want to get her a gift, but if I do so after she gives birth it may be a while till it gets to her because possibly I’ll have to wait for her to return (seems like she’ll be out for about 5-6 months). I don’t know if I leave it at the clinic if someone will be able to get it over to her.
She told me which gender she’s having. Or I can just get a toy or something neutral.
Would you give now or wait?

If not Jewish, I would give one before. As you said, it's typical for them to do a whole baby shower with gifts before baby is born. It wouldn't be weird IMO.

For not Jewish I would and have via baby showers at work.
Jewish frum I would certainly not, and not frum would ask a shaila and if told ok would somehow ask if they were comfortable because there are some not frum Jewish people who still are careful about that (and dont have baby showers at work before baby - they come back w baby for a party!).

Thanks everyone!
Would you go with a stretchy or a toy rather?
About $10-15 range.
I have a new stretchy at home from Mon Cheri so can do that or a toy.
I’m thinking maybe stretchy is too “frum” style…

I'd do a toy over a stretchy, out of the frum world it's seen as pajamas

Don't do the stretchy, it's not a thing outside of the frum world. A toy is fine, swaddles, standard baby clothes you can buy in a regular store.
I would probably get a few board books.

Can you ask her if she has a registry? Then it would be sent directly to her and you could buy it whenever.

No. It's not done. Ayin hara and all that. Oh, not Jewish? Then yes. They don't have this superstition.

I participate in non Jewish coworkers baby showers. Never thought of it as a problem.
If there’s no registry my go to is a toy from target with a gift receipt.

I’m going to ask if there’s a registry.
If not, what’s a nice toy to buy?
