I just opened the pretty disposables I bought for Pesach and a weird smell came from the package. I checked the plastic number on the back of the plates (US) and it was number 6. I looked it up and it seems it’s unsafe to eat from and is recommended to be avoided. And especially with hot food!
I then checked all the other fancy disposables I had left from Purim seudah from other brands and indeed all the ‘frum fancy’ disposables seem to have the same number 6!
Yikes
Are there any ‘healthier’ ones that you have found?

I didn't know this..
But I'm not sure what else to use for Pesach then since we don't use the paper ones because they might have starch

I bet they’re unsafe. I never purchase them because I always assumed they’re Chinese junk with bad chemicals in them. I have no proof but I prefer to be careful until proven otherwise.
And for the record I am not like one of those health freaks. Just something about these screams caution to me. Especially wouldn’t put hot food on/in them.

My mother doesn’t ever put hot food in a plastic plate for this reason.
But I never looked into it so I can’t say.

You can easily test paper tableware for starch: simply drop some tincture of iodine (small dark glass bottle, roughly 1 ounce, available in any pharmacy) on the dish. If the drop stays brown, no starch is present and the plates are Pesach-worthy. If it turns a color described as blue-black, starch is present.

I buy all kinds of nice looking paper plates but hot food on plastic always icked me out. If you need the convienience stick to paper.

I worry about the paper ones too. They must be coated with something of they don't seep through.

Also, adding that she never uses plastic period.
Not even the pain white plastic plates.
I actually mostly use real for dinner even for my kids. I do it because it’s cheaper and I anyway run my dishwasher each day. I don’t have huge Shabbos meals- 12 people would be the max- but I always use real as well.
I use plastic sparingly. For cereal, and snacks. Nothing hot.

I don't know enough about different plastics but the Kirkland white plastic plates are a much heavier plastic and have different? No idea. I feel like I'm not cooking in the plastics so I shouldn't worry too much, rightly or wrongly (we usually use real dishes anyway)
