Going to a hotel for Pessach, I usually dress my kids put together but not in designer because noone cares.
My kids certainly don’t care about looking festive at all, let alone designer. I am struggling to make them wear shabbos shoes instead of sneakers.
So do people actually invest in clothes for pre-teen boys, or can I just shop in Zara?

If you don't care and your boys don't care, does it matter what a bunch of random strangers think?
Do what works for your family. It is just for 8 days, and you're going to be the one dealing with the cost and effort. At most, the random stranger will have a passing thought for 30 seconds. Is it worth it for you to accommodate that?

I really like the white shirts from his place..they wash beautifully with just bleach and have a nice stretch.

What are the shirts from his place called? What brand are they?

Pre teen boys are in suits and white shirts in my circles. They get 1 suit jacket with 2 pants and 2-3 shirts. I replace the pants as needed but the jackets last a long time. Doesn’t look like the Zara suits are much cheaper than the ones from the frum store and it’s easier for me to shop local, let my boys pick what they like and be done then ship back and forth.

Agree with the posters above.
Nice fitting suit, a bunch of shirts and extra pants is what they'll need for shabbos. Ties if they'll wear it and shabbos shoes
For weekday, my preteens give me a hard time wearing nice polos out of school. They only want to wear the sports shirts and tiros. I don't fight it and let them wear that. So no fancy chol hamoed clothing for them. Much easier than the girls.
