Overnight I thought of Chris Grabenstein (Mr. Lemoncello library series). He can be really funny but situationally some of his other series can be inappropriate or pushing an agenda. For an adult it's mostly fine (you can understand why it can happen that a kid - and his mother - doesn't know who his father is) but I wasn't interested in explaining that to my kids.
