What areas make sense to look at as an American couple making Aliya or trying out israel- in our fifties, with married an unmarried children. Also are there any places like beit shemesh Aleph- with houses and larger living spaces but American chareidi? What do people in israel in general do about having married kids and their children over in apartments? Do they just do one at a time instead of a a few at a time like you might do in anaerobic with a five or six bedroom house and a basement? (This is a Amin concern for me- how our children and grandchildren would visits for yt- which feels like it would likely need to be different than America bc of home size).

They squish?
They get bigger apartments? (plenty of 4 and 5 room places in RBs)
There are lots of neighborhood Airbnb type places that can accommodate short term guests.

I've heard of a few people who have done this to Afula. (though many of them already had at least one married child living there).

My neighborhood is not American charedi (although there are a handful) - but many Israelis either have one married child over at a time, and the single kids squish up or sleep in the living room.
Or ask around for neighbors going away for shabbat - many people lend their apartment for free - some charge a small fee.
We don't go away often for shabbat, but we always lend our apartment to people having sleep over guests when we do. And others lend us.

Either you buy a big house and maintain it all long. (Which IMO doesn't make sense no matter where you live )
Or what most people that I know do is rent accommodations for their married kids for yom tov. It is much cheaper to do that rather than maintain a large home all year round.
Or you rent a villa for yom tov and all the married children and grandchildren come.
Then you also get a vacation feel.

Those I know with married kids don't typically have them move in for the entire week long yomtov, so it's very different in terms of that. Also, two main differences between Israel and US is that the country isn't nearly as big (no 6 hour drives) and there is usually only one night of chag/shabbos at a time.
That being said
Either people are cramped, or they borrow or rent apartments/spare bedrooms/guest suites/or kids come one at a time or live walking distance to the parents. And often, the family get togethers for everyone are during the day/evening and not overnight.

You'd do well in Har Nof. More olim in your age bracket. But it's not cheap.
