I have two high school dd’s. This whole friend group business is insane and beyond bizarre but obviously I got used to it. Will this crazy pressure to always have your group never let up? I’m curious for girls who went through the system like this, was it hard and stressful? Does it go on in seminary?

I’m from OOT and such things never existed.

Is this in MML?
They have a group known as “the smush”. Very intimidating for everyone else who is not part of it.

Lol it’s not an autocorrect situation. If you have girls in Hs you definitely heard the word smush used. Three girls in I’m still not exactly sure what they are referring to. In my head I think it’s what we used to refer as JAPPY but with a Yeshivish touch. I could be very wrong but based on the conversations that’s how I chalked it up.
Supposedly shmush cannot be explained to ancient mothers in words.
As for the pressure - bh my girls never expressed a desire to be part. I could imagine for those on the fringe of such groups it can be very hard. Trying to keep up…

A high school here. My daughters are in a different HS, interesting that more than one place refers to the group as the smush. I chalked it up to JAP bec usually when I’ll ask my kids if they know someone’s daughter (from a wealthy family) they’ll say oh Ma she’s a smush.

My dd will see someone from her school and if I ask who it is, she’ll say- oh, she’s part of the smush.

Maybe your dd was a smush. They don’t talk about themselves that way. It’s how others refer to them.

2 dds graduated and never heard the term.

Sem is just as bad. Maybe even feels worse because 24/7.

No issue for dds once home. By then they have too many friends bh from the different "eras" (neighbors, hs, sem, work). Also, more confidence.

I never heard of shush used like that.

The groups are friend groups. There are friend groups, cliques and the shmush. The shmush is girls who don't have their own group, they are part of the shmush. And then there are girls who don't have any friends.

I think it's a symptom of large grades.

BH my girls have good friends so not really a thing unless I say nice girl, does she have friends...

What does smush mean, a clique?
Is it used to refer to a clique you're being excluded from, in a derogatory way?

Probably a good explanation.
But it’s more like- the elite.
Confident, smart, stylish, charismatic…

You learn it slowly when you listen to your hs daughter speak.
