As the moon gets closer to the sun in its monthly cycle, its light and decreases until it diminishes completely. Later on, it returns and reveals itself, and its light gets stronger and stronger. It is the same way with the exile. The world dwells in spiritual darkness that continuously grows. The increasing of darkness is nothing but the result of the growing closeness to the great light of the geulah (redemption) that soon will be revealed.
