I used to cut them in sticks or shred them, but I can't remember when I stopped. None of my girls have been chokers. I think the "official" age is about 5 though.

Even shredded carrots can be an issue for a young child; carrot sticks or even strips are a real no-no until at least 5. Gently steamed carrots are fine right away.I work with feeding issues and am super-aware of the "norm" in eating and choking hazards.

I would have thought finely grated carrots is fine for a baby. how about if I do it in a food processor with a blade?

That doesn't make it okay! Check out baby-safety sites. Haven't you ever coughed while eating shredded or chewed up carrots? Choking hazards is one of my pet peeves! I feel like so many parents don't understand the extent and the danger....

Can you give me a url for one of these sights? To answer your question, no, I myself have never choked from perfectly grated carrots, but if there is proof out there that children can I would like to see it.
