One of my nephews or nieces brought home a chaim walder book that they borrowed from a friend.

My sister said, "I know you want to read this book, but remember? Chaim Walder did very bad things and I'd rather you not read books he wrote. Please return it tomorrow."

I'm surprised, OP, that your son doesn't know about it. My kids that age had heard Abt it, and like someone else said, we used it as a teaching moment on safety. Actually, one of my kids got nervous Abt seeing a therapist because of it. (I reassured them that I was always in the waiting room right outside.)

Our public libraries have CW books too. I don't really want to say anything, especially because our public libraries are anti censorship and banned books... They'd probably put it on their annual banned books display Confused
