It’s probably because it was a granola bar, which usually has nuts. So the teacher saw “may contain” and assumed it’s not okay. If you know the parents, I’d check with them and then push back if they say it’s fine.
Obviously if they say it’s not, you should respect that. But I agree that it probably was more of a knee jerk reaction than an actual rule.
