Chocolate thumbprint cookies

1 1/4 cups flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
7 tbsp unsalted margarine, softened
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup choc chips

Mix the flour, baking powder and salt, set aside
Beat the marg until creamy, add sugar. Beat for 3 minutes more, stir in the vanilla
Gradually blend in the flour until the dough is soft

Shape teaspoonfuls into balls, press a deep indentation into the center
Bake at 350 for 16—18 minutes until firm and lightly golden. Cool

Melt the chocolate and spoon some into the center of each cookie
Chill 30 minutes. Makes 26 cookies

"Deep indentation," presumably meaning your thumb??? I don't understand the deal with "thumbprint" cookies. Am I the only one nauseated by the idea that someone is sticking their thumb into something I'm meant to eat? How is the indentation of someone's thumb appetizing?

I usually use the back of the measuring spoon (1/2 tsp.)...then fill with 1/4 tsp. of whatever filling I'm using.

But yes, the idea behind "thumbprint" cookies is that you can use your thumb. No, it doesn't nauseate me.

Ah, okay, I never had these cookies before, I didn't realize there's a filling. I thought you just see someone's fingerprint on baked dough.

I use whatever filling I have...sometimes fruit (pie or jam), sometimes chocolate chips (then they melt during baking), sometimes caramel.

Leah, I'm totally with you on the thumb part being really unappetizing!!!
