If she's addicted (or loves it THAT much) I'll bet it's not a fruit she's addicted to!!!
It's probably loads of high fructose corn syrup or something like that. It's got to be something very unhealthy in there.

I skimmed both above threads and I read recipes with Ketshup (not at all the KD recipe) and a recommendation of a sauce with pineapple somewhere among the threads.

The KD red sauce has something cherry-ish or cranberry-ish I think, possibly mixed with other fruit such as pineapple, among other fruits....

Isnt there a professional cook on Imamother with sensitive tastebuds who can determine the fruit used for the KD red sauce?

I really think it's Hoisin sauce with more sugar and other additives.

It's an Asian sauce. Made from fermented beans. Or sweet potatoes sometimes.
You can buy Hoisin sauce with a Hechsher.

You mean clear, red, and sugary, right? The Hoisin sauce that I buy is reddish and has that flavor.

try this recipe
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 white vinegar
3/4 cup cold water
2 TBSP lemon juice
1 1/4 cups of white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 TBSP corn starch
1/4 cup cold water
COMBINE ALL BUT THE CORN STARCH AND 1/4 CUP OF COLD WATER IN A SAUCE PAN. BRING TO A BOIL. REDUCE HEAT SIMMER FOR 2 OR 3 MINUTES. DISSOLVE CORN STARCH ON COLD WATER, SLOWLY ADD TO SAUCE PAN. SIMMER UNTIL THICKENED.

I made this on pesach using potato starch...saved my life. my kids actuall ate (sad). I use it with shnitzel, or I make nuggets.
you can half the recipe.
freezes well.

Mine is much better than above link. No, red food coloring is not needed. It is red!

The sesame chicken from KD is not red like that recipe posted. I've made that before. It's RED. much redder. I think it is sweet and sour sauce that gives it the color (and flavor).
OP, I'm wondering, even if you know what gives it the color, how will you make your chicken taste the same way as theirs? You don't know their whole recipe. There are other ingredients in it too you know.

It's from a restaurant in Boro Park, so no ingredient list.

After reading all these threads on IMA about KD Sesame chicken and hearing my sister in law, husband and nephews rave about it I figured it's about time that I taste it.
I did not like it. I seem to be in the minority though.

oh ok...I am not help then...lol. Maybe you could ask them what's in it...I don't see why they won't give you a general ingredient list...maybe not the "secret recipe" but if you can at least find out the components you can figure out a recipe.
