Most babies will calm almost instantly (and if they're tired, fall asleep) with a combination of the following. You need to experiment to see which ones work for your baby.
1. Swaddling
2. Shushing
3. Holding the baby sideways like in a nursing position
4. Rocking (my baby loves when we hold her and walk around the house)
5. Sucking a pacifier, finger, feeding or nursing
Obviously before trying these you first need to make sure that the diaper is clean and that the baby doesn't need to burp.
