I just thought you should know that when plastic water bottles get hot, toxins come out of the plastic and go into the water. This may also apply to a plastic cholent bag. It could be dangerous.

kalichel is shoulder? I think thats number 4 5 6. I never had a problem making cholent in israel. and if you skip out all the stuff that goes in cholent - of course it wont taste good.
my recipe- stove top cholent
2 tbs oil , saute half an onion and 3 cloves garlic
add 2 potatoes or 3 depending on the size
add flanken - stir so it doesnt stick to the pot
while thats sauteeing I put a half a cup each of white beans, pinto beans and barley - either pearl or regular. add 4 T of ketchup, 1 T BBQ sauce, 2 T light Soy sauce, 1/2 tsp red hot sauce, and 1 heaping T salt - I mix the beans to keep the sauces even and dump into the pot, ad water till it covers, bring to a boil, set on simmer for hours.
add kishka on top-
2 carrots
2 stalks of celery
2 tsp paprika
1/4 cup oil
1/4 cup water
tsp salt
about a cup and a half of flour - or until it has a doughy consistency. put in baking paper and in a loaf pan with 2 inches of water in the oven on 180 for an hour, when done - dump on top of cholent.

I fry onions, then add the soaked beans, keep frying
add meat/chicken , keep frying
add potatoes and keep frying
add salt, pepper and sweet paprika, and hot water and cook for as long as you wish, mine cooks for real long
you can sub the potatoes with sweet potatoes, carrots or other such vegetables
if I am in a rush I put everything together and cook without frying.
