I heard that it's good to do this so that the flavor seeps in (when maranading), and that it's bad to do this because it dries out the chicken. what do you think?
(I'm talking about bone-in dark meat, since that's what we eat.)

I never heard of poking holes in the chicken like that..I have heard of being sure to get marinade/seasonings under the skin before cooking though.. For what my .02 is worth

never heard of poking holes in chicken!
just marinade poured over chicken. I often roast upside down (skin down) so flavour from sauce goes into meat (rather than bones) while it is in the oven. always come out very flavourful!

I never heard of poking holes in chicken, but maybe it is a good idea. I might try it.

I've heard both sides of the argument. But it actually dries out the chicken.
The way to get the chicken to truly absorb the marinade is to let it sit longer.

I was so tempted to go to immediate reactions and say, Thanks Always Grateful, for asking the question everyone really wanted to ask but couldn't.
Then I opened this. Interesting!
