I was cooking meat today- a lot of meat, and a thin plastic bag (israeli kind) got into the pot by accident.
now the meat smells off, and I'm so scared its from chemicals from the melted bag.
my mother says it's fine and it just needs to cook some more, but my super sensitive nose tells me its not.
its a lot of meat, and its meant to last us till pesach.
I really really dont want to throw it out.
can anyone reassure me?

I'm no expert, but I think it might be toxic to eat. I wouldn't eat it.

Call Poisin Control and ask them if you can eat it. Hopefully you can but I just don't know.

I wish someone on here was an expert...
thanks ra_mom for the idea
poison control said "I wouldn't see a problem with that" although I didn't tell them it smelled funny.
just said I cooked a "nylon plastic bag" with meat in boiling water for like 20 min.
if anyone else has any opinions/ info, could you post please?
or pm me if you for some reason you want to remain anon?

If you really think the meat doesn't smell right, then why take a chance? If the bag actually melted or disintegrated into the meat, then I wouldn't want to eat it. Think of the financial loss as a kapara, if it helps. (and if it doesn't help, then don't!).
But think of how priceless your family's health is.....

If poison control said that, then I think it should be ok.
I wouldn't be happy about it, but I don't think you should have to throw it all out.
My mefunak husband says he doesn't think it's poison.
ETA: I just noticed that you wrote the bag melted in the water. Any way you can remove the meat from liquid, before putting it away?

Let us know how it goes!
And if you can discard the liquid, and warm up the meat in a new sauce instead, I think you'd be better off. Good luck.

She insists that they aren't any different than the roasting and crockpot bags she bought in the US.
