if your child goes swimming in a real pool on a daily basis- do you send along a life jacket or something?

Last year my 5 year old went to a day camp where the morah was a life guard and rented a pool. There were just 10 boys. I sent floaties and he had a very good time, but the shallowest part of the pool was 4 feet so he needed it.
This year he is 6. His bunk is much bigger and there are so many boys in the pool at a time. I don't think they allow it because of the number of kids swimming, and there is a large 2 ft shallow end so they don't need it.

he doesn't swim because he's afraid of the water but there's a shallow end and lifeguards. he sticks to the steps because of kids' splashing but he can stand in the shallow without a problem.
we're working on getting him out there a little more

In my 5 DD camp and 7 yo DS camp there are large pools and you have to pass a deep water test to seem in the deep section, otherwise, the kids are allowed in the shallow area and there are numerous lifegaurds.
Both camps also provide instructional swim lessons.
