Lots of watermelon. I find that it hydrates me more than anything. I will also try to drink powerade throughout Shabbos.

And my regular Seuda Shlishis - challah, spreads, dips, salads....

the absoultely best food to eat before a fast is fruit, any kind really. and it helps to start eating more fruit than usual a few days before the fast. any fast day that I added grapes and/or watermelon to my diet for the few days before were the easiest fasts.

the only thing to really be careful about when the fast starts after shabbos is drinking A LOT especially because shabbos food is usually saltier and spicier and different than regular food, so you can go into the fast already dehydrated if you're not careful. drink, drink, drink! and eat fruit.

I'm probably serving fleishig... Thinking oven baked shnitzel, brown rice with craisins/mushrooms/onions/garlic, a big salad, and melon.

How are you doing the brown rice?

I find brown rice helps me so much with a fast. As another poster mentioned I also want to make ra_mom's brown rice with meatballs posted by Greeneyes with her meatball recipe. But my dh is nervous about the meatballs and would rather chicken.
So if anyone has a brown rice and chicken recipe for the crock pot I'd really appreciate it.

I'm doing a cold/room temp meal. I make brown rice as usual, and sautee onions, garlic, mushrooms, and craisins. Mix into rice once done, and season with s&p. I like it at any temp Smile

What are you going to be serving? I'm thinking of making lasagne in addition to my regular fare (fish, dips, cheese, salad etc.). But I'm interested in other ideas.
Thank you for starting this thread. I was just about to!

You'd serve cold lasagna?

No, I warm it up on the platta.
You have a milchig one, or you're allowed to use it for both? (I have no idea as I have never owned one.)

My dh holds it self-kashers all the time, and the only problem is with spills. So I prepare cut aluminium foil before Shabbos and just place it on the platta before putting on the milchigs.

There was a thread a while ago about putting a platta on a timer and there is a problem with it (what, exactly, I don't remember). So check with your LOR.

I don't usually do a formal shalosh seudos, since DH usually isn't home for it. Tuna sandwiches and watermelon sound good. Maybe the watermelon first, though.

couscous salad is filing as well- the fine couscous with diced tomatoes, pepper, cucumber, parsley or whatever other veggies you like...I often put olives but will skip because of the saltiness.

Why is everyone avoiding salt? I thought salt is good (in moderation) before a fast, as it helps you retain water.

I'm thinking of making a cheesecake:)

I eat that too a lot. Sometimes add in chick peas as well. I dress it in olive oil, fresh lemon juice (and rind if you use it), salt and pepper, cumin and dried corriander if you have it.
