I used to watch this great show that encouraged people to prepare the food for the crockpot the night before and store it in the removable part of the crockpot in refrigerator overnight. Then in the morning, you were supposed to put the crockpot insert directly into the machine in the morning. Has anyone ever done this? I am afraid of moisture collecting on the outside of the crockpot insert and causing a short in the system. Am I being silly? I love my crockpot but would love to give up the morning preparations and just prep it all the night before.

I've had some moisture on my crock pot insert before and it was fine. You can wipe it with a towel if you are worried. Maybe line your crock pot with foil?

I do that with my chulent every Thursday night, but in a tupperware. Put everything except the meat together, uncooked, cover with water, and refrigerate. On friday, I pour it into the crockpot, add the meat, and add more water. Makes erev shabbos so much easier!

happyme7 - does your crockpot have a removable center? Would you try it in the removable center overnight?

My crockpot does have a removable center, but I wouldn't store it that way because it takes up too much room in the fridge. Also, the crockpot seal isn't so tight and I think the raw onions would really smell up the fridge. The tupperware works really well for it.

I do it with my cholent every Thursday night directly in the insert. Sometimes, if I'm short on refrigerator space, I don't prepare the meat on Thursday and just leave the insert with potatoes, barley water and spices on the counter. Usually I combine everything (besides beans which soak overnight in another container), refrigerate, and put up Friday morning. Never had an issue
