This is great!! from Kochav Nolad (A Star Is Born song competition show in Israel) - Look at the crowd clapping along
(if you don't know Simon and Garfunkle, forget it)
Taken from the israeli TV show "Rising Star".
Aryeh and Gil Gat are two brothers from Jerusalem.
In this video they're singing "The Sound of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkel.

they're very good. I can't help being amused by the accents, though.

I doubt they'd care. there have been so many covers done to this song anyway.

Yes, but has there ever been a rabbi duo on Israeli TV or in any other any other country that has performed "Sounds of Silence"? I think they are unique enough for the boys to sit up and take notice.
Now, for some reason, I have "Oh Cecilia" playing in my head.

I don't think "Oh Cecilia" is their style.
It's really cool they're singing there and all these kids (mostly chiloni) - definitely not Chareidi - are enjoying the music and it's a song that these kids know. Gives them a different outlook on religious people - like we're almost human.
Imagine if these two were on the American show. It wouldn't work. but here, even if there are big differences, when it comes down to it, everyone recognizes everyone else as fellow Jews

I thought it would be funny for them to sing "the boxer."

Beautiful.
Can someone explain the show? What is the percentage on the left hand side?

It's a competition show on every week.Taken from an American show. It's not at all a religious show. That's why it's so nice. My kids like to watch it but I never do so I don't know what that % is. The 4 people in front give each group points and always each talk about why they like the performer or not. - Actually, maybe the % is people voting (besides those 4 cause at the begining of the song it says on the screen - You can now vote. the winners from today's show gets to go on to the semi-finals and finals

Now I got the explanation from my daughter - first of all I have the name of the show wrong so I had the whole explanation wrong - It's Kochav Haba -In the beginning they're singing behind a screen and they don't see the audience and the audience sees them on the screen
People can vote from home (on their smart phone). The four people in front also vote and their votes are worth 7 points. If they get to 70 points, that's when the screen was like fireworks and disappeared so they see the audience
then they get to go on to the next stage

Now that I understand the show it's even more exciting to watch. As they get more votes more faces appear on the screen in front of them and when one of the judges vote for them their face appears big so they know how they're doing the whole time
