Does anyone know if I can just buy any unlocked phone in the US and then get a plan for it here in Israel? Anyone have experience with this?

If your phone is unlocked through the manufature it will work in israel. I had my iphone unlocked through apple via my cell provider. When we arrived in Israel I put in a micro SIM card from an israeli cell provider and it worked perfectly.
