A lot of people I know use this but the hechsher is not on kosher quest. I wasn't sure if it's like kellogs cereal where we just "know" it's kosher or if it's just that those people are relying on an unreliable hechsher

We use this brand . The ingredients are VERY straight forward Kosher quest states that Sriracha Sauce has been certified Kosher by the RCC (Rabbinical Council of California)
I love the spicy sauce on everything Wink

It's Thai chili sauce. A bit garlic-ey, very slightly sweet-and-sour.
It's great on stir-fry, fried rice.

Though personally I'm more of a harissa (aka Moroccan ketchup!) girl myself...

You can't make a good spicy peanut sauce without it! It also works well with Indian food, when you need a little extra "kick" in there.

I recently purchased Natural Earth Products Sweet Chili Sauce, in Pomegranate. Is this a Siriracha Sauce?

WAIT - Mrs. Bissli, is sriracha a substitute for thai chili paste/sauce? Because I've been looking everywhere for thai red chili paste with a hechsher....

sriracha - a smooth sauce with garlic, hot peppers and vinegar base
chili garlic sauce- lee kum kee . some runs supervised by the OU
sambal oelek- a type of chili garlic sauce

lkk is the least hot although very tasty. it is my experience that the biggest differences are textural. when I thought huy fongs was not under an acceptable hashgacha, I learned to make sriracha. you can make chili garlic sauce from the waste of the sriracha.

now if someone could just find me kosher fish sauce....

ChanaMiriam - are any of those substitutes for a paste like this one? They all seem to be sauces/condiments rather than ingredients in a stir fry or curry (mmmm... Thai curry...)

If you are just now jumping on the Sriracha bandwagon, you'd better hurry, soon it will be but a distant memory (if you want it to be the authentic stuff - which you do.).

Grandma1, no, siriracha sauce is completely different from sweet chili sauce (sticky sweet stuff with a few bits of chili flakes floating around).

Tziporra, I usually get my harissa from France. But you may be able to find Israeli ones that come in small plastic tubs, the same company that imports Israeli hummous etc (Yarden for European distributor). If not you should be able to find it in Israeli/Sephardi supermarkets in Brooklyn.

I have also seen a thai red curry paste that was imported from Israel (or Thai green curry paste and yellow curry paste for that matter).

FranticFrummie, if you want authentic kick in indian dishes, try Vindaloo paste from Raja (has federation hechsher here).

Hey, do you know where I can get thai curry paste? What the brand name is, who sells it (in/near Brooklyn), where to order online etc? Thanks!

The one I have is Thai Gourmet brand. I think it must be produced in Thailand for export to Israel.
It has Chug Chatam Sofer hechsher, does not contain fish/fish sauce. I get it in my local kosher supermarket.
